Unlike the oft-encountered schematic eyes from abroad, this vintage home-grown offering allows you to practice ophthalmoscopy as well as retinoscopy and features a choice of pupil diameter so you can practise ignoring the peripheral reflex and watching the central ret reflex in the large pupil. There is a choice of 3 pupil sizes 5, 8 & 10mm diameter selected from a rotary wheel. The fundus card is set to emetropia (verified) so you can practice ophthalmoscopy starting with +10D dialed jn and slowly reducing plus as you approach the patient. The whole posterior pole is depicted, though the ora is more posteriorly depicted than its true location. The retinoscopy is not set to give neutrality as-is, you will need to add trial lenses to neutralise the reflex. Thus it’s a great test for your pre-reg, who will pick up little reflex at first swipe. The seller removed the glass focusing lens to clean it, what you now find is a lens in immaculate condition. I also focimetred and used subjective methods to verify the quality of the optics. It has 3 trial lens holders; you are thus empowered to create a huge range of spherical/astigmatic refractive errors that you must then neutralise. It’s angled upwards so you can place it on a desk or even consulting room chair and ret on axis (vertically) without having to slouch excessively. Featuring all-metal frame. Supplied with box.
